Winter Skincare Treats

The humidity, the snow, and the oh so cold temperature - winter is really one horrible season for the health of your skin. It can leave your skin uncomfortable, making it feel dry and itchy. The thing that you need to do is try not to let it get worse, or better yet, treat it before the problem even starts. How can you do it? Here are a few simple things to help you maintain that healthy skin all year long.

Exfoliate- brush up with the best in natural exfoliating ingredients. Try an enzyme exfoliating mask this can be gentler on sensitive skin than manual scrubs. Look for masks that contain natural enzymes such as bromelain and papain (from pineapple and papaya) to clear accumulated debris and dead skin cells. Essential phyto-nutrients and antioxidants such as strawberry and blueberry extracts help to brighten dull winter skin. Don't be put off by powdered masks.

The skin should be moisturized while still damp. For the body, a light body oil can even been applied before stepping out of the shower. Any body lotion can be used after bathing. Heavier body creams or body "butters" can be used if the skin is extremely dry. The face should be treated gently with a moisturizer that is free from petroleum products. A lotion formula is usually suitable for normal and oily skin types.

You should be exfoliating twice a week to keep your skin glowing. This will help to get rid of dead skin cells and allow your skin to retain more moisture. Use a body polish or exfoliating cleanser. On your body, try using a loofah to keep your skin exfoliated and healthy (never loofah your face!).

Too much and prolonged exposure to the direct sunlight is one of the contributing factors for skin dry problem. This happens even during winter. The cold air allows for the rapid evaporation of water from the skin pores.Skincare moisturizers should provide adequate water to prevent skin drying. Not all moisturizers are created equal, however. Some are able to deliver the promised desired results. Others simply cause more damage to the skin.

When you are out frolicking on the beach (with your SPF-naturally), there is good a chance of causing your pigment to go on overdrive. The result is hyperpigmentation which can come across as sunspots on your skin. The sun kissed look is always alluring, however there are natural ways to treat the sunspots, which to some can be more than what was bargained for; limit your sun exposure to the peak hours (usually from 10am to 4pm), and up the SPF level on your sun block.

Your eyes should look moist and youthful. They set off the rest of your features. The winter has dried the area around them causing them to look dull and flaky. Solution: apply a cream specially formulated to treat the eye area. One with as many natural ingredients as possible will benefit your skin the most. Leave those preservatives and chemicals on the curb. A wonderful and pure ingredient found in some eyecare products, rose hips oil is nature's gift to us with its antioxidant characteristics-an added benefit as we know how important antioxidants aid in our overall health and well-being.

Nails can undergo real abuse during the winter months, but with so many gorgeous berry nail colours around this season, it's an ideal time to draw attention to nails. Wearing rubber gloves when doing any housework can help protect nails from hot water and abrasive products.
